Synovate has been researching the internet since 1997, and has three key researchers well-experienced in this area. Work conducted by these researchers includes work into the usage and attitude towards select sites, online shopping, and B2B financial services.
Most Synovate online research is overseen by Jonathan Dodd, who is recognised as one of the leaders in online market research within New Zealand.
Being a heavy internet user since 1992, one of Jonathan’s strongest areas of expertise is in online research. Internet related highlights of his career include the following:
- a 1996 conference paper on the impact of the internet on market research which was subsequently published by the European Market Research Society;
- his establishment of the New Zealand branch of the internet market research company RedSheriff (now part of Nielsen//Netratings), gaining and servicing clients such as Te Papa, Telecom, Tourism NZ, Roche, Deloittes, and State Insurance;
- at Synovate, conducting online surveys for Freedom Air, Sanitarium, Te Papa, Novartis, Comalco, Merck Sharpe & Dohme and House of Travel, as well as qualitative website evaluation research and consultancy for Te Papa, PHARMAC, Barfoot & Thompson, Freedom Air, the New Zealand Marketing Association, Metrowater and House of Travel;
- providing much commentary on the internet for the National Business Review;
- designing, writing and maintaining the Synovate New Zealand website;
- a short period working for search engine marketing company First Rate.
