Synovate - The global market research company driven by curiosity

Jonathan Dodd

Research Director
M.Soc.Sci (Sociology/Psych)
Fellow of the Market Research Society of New Zealand

Jonathan has 16 years’ experience in market research, beginning at Research International and then moving to Research Solutions (now Synovate) for 1995 – 1999, a period which also saw him becoming Vice-President of the NZ Market Research Society, handling formal complaints within the industry, editing the MRS newsletter, and helping establish the first MRS website.

His enthusiasm and challenging attitudes towards market research led to him twice being sought out by international research companies, returning to Research Solutions, now Synovate, in January 2002.

He is a prolific writer and commentator on social, business, and marketing issues,  and has provided guest lectures for the University of Waikato, the Manukau Institute of Technology, the Marketing Association, and Massey University.  He currently writes regular marketing-related columns for the New Zealand Herald and has a monthly commentary slot on TV3's ASB Business morning business programme. In general this reflects his ‘always thinking’ approach to research, questioning everything and always seeking new perspectives.

His Market Research Society conference paper of 1999  was published by the European Market Research Society, and his papers of 2005 and 2007 both won the “People’s Choice” awards.  In 2004 a project of Jonathan's won a 'Highly Commended" award at the Market Research Effectiveness Awards.

Jonathan’s skills are equally at home in both quantitative and qualitative research, and he is particularly skilled at drawing out relevant and practical marketing strategies from research results.  Recent clients of Jonathan’s include ANZ, the Rotorua District Council, SPARC, Kumfs, Lundbeck Pharmaceuticals, and Home Direct.

Jonathan can be contacted at jonathan.dodd@synovate.com and is based in Rotorua.
